Radio

The original radio did not function. The screen was back light but there was no ability to either enter codes or use any of the functions. Decided that it would be worth getting a new radio. However, rather than replace like for like with one that had a cassette deck as original, chose to order a radio/CD player from Land Rover ( LR032535 ).

As can be seen from the rear, there are some slight differences. The top is the original radio and the bottom is the new radio/CD player. Turns out that the aerial cable connector in the dash is not compatible with the new radio. Need to figure out if there is an adapter. This can be resolved when undertaking the job to fix the broken aerial.

The image below shows the slot in the dash for the radio. Hoovered this out, blasted away remaining debris with the air compressor and then cleaned/wiped down the plastic.

Upon fitting the new radio/CD player, came across an issue in which the rubber alignment plug on the rear of the new radio/CD player was larger compared to the original. Need to figure if the rubbers can be swapped over. Another job on the list. For now have simply removed them.

The radio then pushed flush into the slot, powered on, code applied, CD inserted and banging tunes coming out of both the front (and only) speakers.

Kids love it since it has to be played loud to hear over the thumping 300 Tdi engine noise.

Planning on taping out the holes for the removal forks and fitting security bolts. Another one for the list.
