Easter Jobs

First task was to deal with the leaking roof - see the article.

The outside roof all being finished, attention turned to the wiring hanging down from the underside of the roof. At this stage, the entire roof was also given a good clean including all the channels, window seals, etc...

Once we figured out where the wires needed to go, they were then taped back onto the underside of the roof.

Sluggie now all ready for the roof headlining.

Before that though, needed to go over to Reading to help my brother Jason lay some floorboards in his attic. Good excuse and reason to finally get the roof bars fitted.

Had purchased a set of three Rhino bars. These being very sturdy and supplied with rubber mounts to protect the gullies. The bars also having an aerodynamic finish, really!!!

Currently have them aligned to allow our roof top box to be fitted and yet spread far enough to take 2.4m lengths of plasterboard, flooring, etc.. Will see how this goes. In case you're wondering, keen on a roof top box as that is where we bung all out wet suits, body boards, buckets, spades, beach tents, etc... I know it's a Land Rover but would like to keep tidy for the longer term.

Anyway, will probably end up getting a fourth bar though as the front bar does not currently allow for the sunroof to be removed. Not really keen either to move the rear bars further forward as want the rear bar close to the edge to allow for easier loading/unloading of long boards. Let's see.

Was then a little concerned about the clearance of getting Sluggie in and out of the garage. However, it just goes - a feeler gauge job though.

Anyway, nearly all ready for the trip to Reading other than Jason does not share my same taste in music. Need to get the radio aerial working. See the article. Turned on the radio and tuned into Radio 4. Sure that Jason would be happy with that on our journey!

We had a good run over to Reading and back, getting an average of 27.9mpg. Funnily enough, when coming off J13 on the M4, we were stuck in a traffic jam queue that had a dozen or so Defenders lined up. Turned out that there was a 4x4 meeting.

Once back home, then had to get Sluggie ready for its MOT which was a couple of days away. This meant putting back the middle and rear seats including all the seat belts. At this time there was no headlining, sun visors or rear view mirrors. However, after doing some research they are not necessary for the MOT.

Booked the MOT with DBL Land Rovers, the same folk that did Sluggie's first service. Turns out they actually partner with Hillside Garage. Ended up driving over to Hillside Garage myself. Anyway, Sluggie passed the MOT with no advisories. Yippee.

After the MOT, it was back to fitting out the headlining board. Ironically, had to remove the middle and rear seats including seat belts to make the job easier. See the article.

Then it was time to refit the middle and rear seats (again) including seat belts. Katie's brother came over with Maggie and kids. We all went out for dinner using Sluggie for transport as well as Katie's mum.

Still loads of trim to refit and loads to fettle. However, a milestone reached not least all the Land Rover parts and now either back on Sluggie or at least in the garage. The family now has the lounge and dinning room back again. Happy times......
